Moderators should really get to grips with such idiocy.

Apologies to the opening poster on their behalf.

It will be a very sad inditement of this site if a moderator does not intervene on this thread.

To the original poster:
Could you not home-school your children while on this trip?

Re: 6 month sabbatical in alps with kids 5,8,10

Who would benefit from home schooling? Is is any less harmful for the children than putting them into a foreign language school for a short period of them which is likely to do more harm than good. Many of us have been through maintaining the balance between being a good parent and enjoying the most in life and all three of my children went on skiing holidays before they could walk. The important word there is holidays. Taking three children out of their primary schools to re-live a dream is selfish as they will not only miss out on the routine of normal life in and out of their learning environment but will lose touch with the the close relationships they have been making with their peers. If you really want to live in a ski resort plan a long term move, perhaps three years or more, one that will allow your family to settle in to their new environment and profit from the experience.

I agree with B&B.

Also, you really don't want to live in a French ski resort long term. It's a hard life. I can't see any enjoyment in that. Especially with kids.

Very strange places ski resorts when you dig a little deeper.

Digging a shallow hole through the snow is always easy. It's the rock that's more difficult.

Yes, I completely agree, BinB! You articulated my underlying feeling exactly.
