Re: UK posters, help me out with a question about the NHS

I am enjoying all the answers and absolutely delighted that the NHS that I have admired and loved for decades still comes up with the goods.

What prompted these questions in my head?  Well, my own experiences of recent months and the incessant stream of very critical articles in the right-wing, foreign-owned press.  The contents of some of the articles were so outrageous that I had to question how factual they were and how much American health companies, for example, are casting a greedy eye on the potentially hugely lucrative UK market in health services.

Mac, I did not imply at all that French was better than UK (sticking a pin on a map).  I did say it was all a matter of pot luck.  And I can tell you for certain where in the developed countries patients not only have to solicit information from friends, family and, yes, internet forums for recommendations of cancer specialists, gynaecologists, all the specialties imaginable PLUS ask about costs in order to calculate whether they can afford the treatment.  And that is the biggest economy in the world, no other than the US

I hadn't thought about this aspect of having to find your doctor first before you decide which one to opt for!  It's just that, in the course of researching my own illness, I spent hours gleaning information on both English- and French-based websites and it's made me very grateful for my own medical care.  I felt that I could not have received better.
