lune gibeuse et décroissante

that's the description of tonight's moon. What does gibeuse mean? I think décroissante means waning ; It was full moon on Sat. night.

Gibeuse fr or gibbous en means more than a semi circle but less than a full circle.

I was going to say three-quarters moon but I see BinB has got in before me.

It was our own Clair who told me that years ago and it's such an unusual word that I have never forgotten it.

I just found that there is such a thing as a hunter's moon, around this time too.

I guessed the meaning of gibeuse might have something to do with gibier - big game eg deer.

Perhaps it was named because of hunting with light in October - no justification for my comment though.
