Declining bird population in France

The fact that an opinion has been widely held is no evidence whatever that it is not utterly absurd; indeed in view of the silliness of the majority of mankind, a widespread belief is more likely to be foolish than sensible.

Sarcozy may end up "doing bird" does that count?

Re: Declining bird population in France

When we moved to our rural home in France, surrounded by trees, there was never a dawn chorus. We rarely saw birds out in the countryside.

I had really thought that the catastrophy had already happened in the 80's, or even earlier, all shot and eatenSad [:(]

Re: Declining bird population in France

Judging by the number that have been feeding at my birdtable this winter, there is no shortage. However, there may be less variety than there used to be in the Vendee.
But, the treasure of the year is the little harrier eating from or at least sitting on the bird table last week. A pleasant sight, though the flocks of hedge sparrers and finches may not have thought so.
However, given the quantity of pesticides poured on the land, one is not surprised that we are approaching silent countryside.
Ticking over, just about.

Our french house was surrounded by fields whose owner had decided to go 'bio'. No pesticides etc.
There were pheasants and quails in that field after harvest time. But a few hunters tried to reduce their numbers.
