Just in case you're too preoccupied with Brexit to notice...

From BBC News
"The French National Assembly has passed a tough new immigration law that tightens the rules around asylum.
The bill shortens asylum application deadlines, doubles the time for which illegal migrants can be detained, and introduces a one-year prison sentence for entering France illegally.
President Emmanuel Macron's governing centrist party says the bill will speed up the process of claiming asylum.
But opposition figures and human rights groups say the measures go too far.
The bill passed by 228 votes to 139, with 24 abstentions."

Yes, I saw it.

There is now a huge camp in Paris 18e. It is being called the new Sangatte. I was wondering what they are going to do about that when this new law got passed.

Do you think it will be passed by the senat?

I don't know, mint, but given the clear majority for the bill I'd be surprised if it wasn't.

I'm as appalled as everyone else by what's been going on in the UK, and I really think it stinks. What worries me as much, though, is that many British people who are as appalled as I am seem to be so blinkered by what our own government is doing that they are oblivious to what's happening elsewhere, and which is equally pernicious.

Well if the law is passed and they put it into practice, sounds like prisons will become veerrry full...

Don't forget these points too:

Ce que contient (entre autres) le texte

Les premiers articles du projet de loi concernent un renforcement des droits des personnes étrangères qui obtiennent une protection comme le droit d’asile. C’est une partie du volet « intégration » du texte, que ses opposants jugent insuffisant mais que la droite va chercher à durcir.

  • Il prévoit de nouveaux droits pour les personnes bénéficiaires de la protection subsidiaire et pour les apatrides : le titre de séjour qui leur sera accordé sera valable quatre ans, au lieu d’un an actuellement, ce qui leur évitera de lourdes démarches administratives chaque année (articles 1 et 2) ;

The fact that an opinion has been widely held is no evidence whatever that it is not utterly absurd; indeed in view of the silliness of the majority of mankind, a widespread belief is more likely to be foolish than sensible.

Yep Norman, silly post really.

What do you expect from right leaning EU governments and press in general and in France in this case.

Brexit does deserve a topic in its own right.

Very positive comment from Eurotrash of course.
My name is Richard , not Dick or any variant.
Dick is a crude name for a functional organ that is used as a derogatory name. Any reference to me as Dick will be met with equivalent response. Strange that it cant be policed better.
