Pat, I have just found this one in an Erik Orsenna book I am reading.  Mieux vaut tard que jamais.  Yes what indeed better than better late than never?

I think it is really useful.  For example, I stopped emailing French friends last year and I have had messages, cards, emails that I had until now felt unable to answer.  So, yes, you have guessed it.  I shall be sending out replies, all starting with please excuse my late response to your message but mieux vaut tard que jamais, n'est ce pas?Big Smile [:D]

BTW, this is a book that I bought some 5 years ago on the recommendation of a French friend and I was totally unable to make head or tail of it.  Then, yesterday evening, I picked it up and I am enjoying it so much that I have already read 84 pages and, believe me, for a French book, this is rather good going for me!
